We’re just days away from October, which means our Gingham group will be shipping out soon! What great timing too, because judging by what we’ve seen on the runways, the Gingham trend is going to be big for Spring. Pink and blue, large and small, deconstructed and sequined… we spotted gingham prints in the collections of Oscar de la Renta, Altuzarra, Diane von Furstenberg, and others. What’s your favorite take on this classic?

LUNGevity for Peter

peter3

As many of you may know, we recently suffered a loss in the Karla Colletto family. Peter Rovan, our dear friend and husband to co-founder Lisa, passed away on August 29, 2014 after a year-long battle with lung cancer.

Peter was one-of-a-kind. We will truly miss his charismatic spirit, his quirky sense of humor, and his carefree ability to live in the moment. We have received, on Lisa’s behalf, an outpouring of support from our friends and customers and we thank you all for your kindness and sympathy during this time.

Lung cancer is the top cancer killer, accounting for 14% of all new cancer diagnoses and 27% of all cancer deaths–approximately 160,000 lives per year. It is a devastating disease that can afflict anyone, regardless of smoking history, gender, or ethnicity. Currently, only 16% of people diagnosed with lung cancer survive five years post-diagnosis, a percentage significantly lower than that for colon, breast, and prostate cancer.

Sadly, nothing can bring Peter back to us. To honor his memory and to make a difference in the future of lung cancer treatment, we encourage you to make a donation to the LUNGevity Foundation via Peter’s tribute fund page. The LUNGevity Foundation funds research to develop early detection methods and targeted therapies for lung cancer, advancements that could save lives.

Please follow this link to Peter’s Tribute Fund page to donate today!

Risky Business

kcxda_KateWarren7

On Friday, August 22, our friends at Design Army hosted a late summer pool party and fashion event at Capitol Skyline Hotel to celebrate the launch of our very special Karla Colletto X Design Army “Swim At Your Own Risk” capsule collection.

The soiree was a success, with over 200 guests including some of DC’s most fashionable. The night’s “lifeguards on duty” were models from T.H.E. Artist Agency, sporting pieces from the capsule collection and striking their best poses for Kate Warren, the official event photographer. Cool tunes from DJ Paul Thornley of U.S. Royalty and a screening of everyone’s favorite Jaws help set the mood as guests mingled over Corona-ritas and custom “Swim At Your Own Risk” cookie pops by Occasions Caterers. Guests wrestled inflatable alligators in the pool and got silly at the photo booth provided by Onomonomedia. Event photographers from a Guest of a Guest, Brightest Young Things, and DC Hot Spots were also on the scene to capture the night’s highlights.

Thanks again to everyone who attended, as well as our friends and sponsors: T H E Artist Agency, Occasions Caterers, Amaryllis, Inc. Floral + Event Design, OnomonoMEDIA, LLC, Everything But Water, Kate Warren, and of course Design Army. See some snaps from the event below (photos by Kate Warren):
