A sophisticated eye for design and an emboldened ethos set this distinctive aesthete apart from the rest. Hailing from the world’s number one fashion magazine, ELLE, arrives Shilpa Prabhakar Nadella – a trend expert.
Tell me a little about your journey to becoming and flourishing as one of ELLE’s top editors?
I always knew I wanted to work in magazines so my journey began during my summers in college. I was fortunate enough to have internships at Cosmo, Vogue and InStyle. My internship at InStyle landed me a full time position as a Fashion Assistant at the magazine and eventually a promotion to Assistant Fashion Editor. From there, I moved to ELLE as the Associate Market Editor and have since gone on to my current position as Market Editor.
What do you find most invigorating about your work?
The people I work with and the designers I see on a daily basis inspire me. I feel so fortunate to work in an industry filled with so much creativity and talent. I love showing our readers affordable ways to adapt runway themes.
What has been a defining moment that helped shape your career?
I don’t think there is one moment that has shaped my career. I’ve learned by mistake and also by those around me. Each boss, coworker or designer I’ve crossed paths with has taught me something memorable. The industry is continuously changing and it’s important to be adaptable.
What advice would you give to yourself five years ago?
Embrace who you are and surround yourself with people who have similar goals and values as you do.
What keeps you motivated and inspired?
I love discovering new talent. It’s an incredible experience to have the opportunity see a young designer go from showing their first collection in their apartment to a runway show on the big stage during fashion week. I also love the stories and inspiration behind each collection I see.
What’s your current state of mind?
How would you define your sense of style?
My style is pretty minimalist. I stick to neutral colors (black, white, grey, navy) and try to be comfortable in what I am wearing. I spend tons of time running around the city on market appointments so I try to be practical in my wardrobe. I always buy a few statement pieces each season that pair well with basics I already own. I’m a firm believer that it’s important to work with the items you own and add bits here and there.

Meet Sydney – Australia’s premiere locale. Cosmopolitan and modern, yet still maintaining a “no worries” atmosphere, Sydney offers the best of sea and city. Through “Sydneysiders” and excursionists alike we’re taking you on a visual tour down under.
DO. EAT. STAY.
An absolute must – take a stroll through Sydney Harbour to witness the iconic cityscape of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Feeling adventurous? – engage in a daring climb of the bridge at sunset. It’s here you’ll find incomparable views of this prized mise en scène.
Blue waves and warm sand draw excursionists into Bondi Beach, a world famous locale. At 1 kilometer long there’s a little something for everybody. Grab your favorite suit, take in some sun, and splash in the surf.
When you’re ready for a break from surf side lounging, experience something new. Thought-provoking ultramodern art displays await at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
When all that recreation leaves you with an appetite – you’ll find Twenty 8 Acres to be just the right bite. Cozy and vibrant, this cafe locally sources ingredients and makes items fresh each and every morning.
Don’t leave out dessert, especially when it’s this unique. Ethereal in taste and presentation the sea salt soft serve of Aqua S will leave you wanting more.
Aqua S (@AquaS_AU) is a Sydney must. The recently opened spot is a crowd and personal favourite. You'll often find the line out the door and moving around the corner. The staple flavour is sea salt! Yes – you heard me right. I personally love this flavour. They also have two other flavours which change every two weeks. One of my favourites was biscotti and watermelon. – @taramilktea (Guest Weekend Takeover)
A predominantly white space disrupted with fun, unexpected pops of color invites you in. It’s not just aesthetics that will win you over, make way for unique accommodations like in room hair styling and a personal grocery shopper that stocks your suite before you arrive! This is the #1 rated hotel in Sydney and they’ve got the World Luxury Hotel Award to prove it.

How would you define the concept of style?
A mix of good taste, elegance and a sense of daring.
How would you describe your own sense of style?
My personal style (not my work) is minimalist, no color (black, white, grey, army green), and comfortable, with always a cool slightly avant garde factor. My style in my work is more varied, as I embrace editorial themes spanning anywhere from new romantics to 80ies rock. I like to create unexpected mixes. But always chic, cool and daring.
What advice can you give for putting together a look?
Be comfortable first in yourself and in your clothes, because if you are not, you will never look stylish. Then have fun creating an outfit appropriate for the event you have to attend and don’t forget your smile is your best accessory.
What’s the best thing about your job?
Creating beautiful images and working with creative, wonderful people whether they are part of the team or clients.
What’s your motto?
Positivity, Joy, Love of Life. I also love posting my inspiration images daily on instagram. I think you can see there the expression of my spirit. @christinedelassus
Do you have a style icon?
Tilda Swinton. She is chic, unconventional and always so elegant.
What is your favorite online shop?
None, I like to browse many sites and do my research online, but then most of the times I will buy in stores as I like to try and touch.

Inspired by an iconic image of model Peggy Moffitt’s 1960’s look fused with designer Rudi Gernreich’s avant-garde style. In his mod swimsuit, black bands entwine a bold red to form graphic cutouts. Known for defying the boundaries of design, Karla Colletto revitalized the look with strong cutouts, crisscrossing bands, and unparalleled structural elements to master a form that is both chic and sensual.

We’re bringing you some vacation inspiration in the form of our four favorite Florida resorts – these on location photos will have you dreaming of a summer get away. So kick back, relax, and start day dreaming.
Acqualina Resort and Spa
Location – Sunny Isles Beach
Take a step into modern sophistication and luxury. This Florida resort offers access to many local beauties, including art museums, botanical gardens, zoos, and safari parks. But don’t feel like you have to take off in a hurry. A dip in their ocean facing pool will cool you off or sit poolside with a drink in hand and let the sea breeze drift over your skin while reading this summer’s next bestseller. It’s called a Resort and Spa for a reason – don’t miss out on some prime YOU time.
BONUS: If that’s not enough for you: travelers rave about the excellent staff, giving them a little something extra to brag about.
Location – Miami
If you feel like getting away but don’t want to miss out on the action, then you might enjoy the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Miami. Within the hotel you will feel pampered by their excellent spa, relaxed by the private beach and pool, and tempted by luxury shopping at specialty boutiques. But if you feel like getting out and about then the excitement of downtown Miami is still within walking distance. So, if you want to be close to everything, yet feel that you’re away from it all then this one’s for you.
BONUS: Known for spacious and beautiful rooms that you’ll want to return to again and again.
Location – Palm Beach
Beautiful architectural details throughout this celebrated hotel (already in its second century) will astound you, transporting you to a palace by the sea – even its tall lobby ceilings were completed by artists brought in from Italy! Fountains appear throughout the landscaping with plenty of places to take a seat, a breath, and relax. There are plenty of activities available to keep you busy: beachside yoga, guided snorkeling, bicycle tours, golf, and excellent spa services. If you feel like enjoying the beauty of the Florida coast lounge by any of the four (that’s right – FOUR) ocean facing pools or lounge in private beach sands.
BONUS: One night in this historical masterpiece will have you feeling like a queen.
The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island
Location – Amelia Island
If you’re looking to feel refreshed then don’t overlook this popular hotel with friendly staff, great food, and a prime location. This place seems to have it all! With indoor and outdoor entertainment options you can find the best of both worlds – including a historic bike tour, nature tour, cocktail classes, and even a private couple’s fire in the dunes (ah- romance). Better yet – the beach is just a few steps away!
BONUS: For an extra spot of fun, take part in the weekly pirate toast as a nod to the locations’ roots.
It’s President’s Day, but let’s take a virtual trip to Italy to learn more about Eurojersey Sensitive® Fabrics, our go-to fabric for comfort, color fastness, chlorine resistance and other high performance.
#KCMADEINAMERICA BY KARLA COLLETTO
It’s 2015 and there’s so much to celebrate! For one thing, there’s the fact that after nearly 30 years, Karla Colletto suits are still #KCMadeInAmerica of the finest imported materials! We’ve never been prouder to bring you high quality one- and two-piece designs, all smartly constructed, whimsically imagined, and made with LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber to ensure high performance, fast recovery, and a comfortable and flattering fit.
Our Spring/Summer 2015 styles come alive in a star quality campaign shot by Dean Alexander and art directed by Design Army. We’ve taken the best and boldest of last season’s retro-eclectic Americana to a new level: clean silhouettes, graphic edges, and great pops of color to highlight the true star of the season: You!
Treat yourself to three new groups, available in all-American hues like watermelon, malibu, spring, mahogany, or nickel. The Strappy group calls to mind 1960s bathing beauties with crisp accented bands and water ballet-esque silhouettes. The Linked group is sleek and contemporary, with cool stainless steel rings in a unique open pattern—an update to a classic Karla style. The Textured Stripe group is elegant and streamlined, working the stripes to create graphic, yet sophisticated angles.
The much-anticipated “Swim At Your Own Risk” collaboration with Design Army is back with even more bite from now until the end of the season. Other bestsellers like the Twist, Powernet, and Draped Fringe will also return in new colors. Print groups like Gingham, Hologram, and Leopard Lace-up will continue to be available while supplies last.
Raise your glasses, take your marks, step into those spotlights! This season is about what’s kept us going strong all these years. It’s about #KCMadeInAmerica. It’s about you! Show us your Karla style by tagging @karlacolletto #karlacolletto #KCMadeInAmerica and you might just get a repost!
This is going to be a Spring/Summer season to remember!
